Door and Opening Basics
Posted: Jan 07, 2016
We use doors every day, and I never even noticed how complicated they are. At their most basic, a door is a hole in a barrier, with an obstacle attached to keep intruders out and individuals in. You don’t really notice doors until something goes wrong with them, or until faced with hanging one yourself and you learn that bubble levels are a magical tool that hates you.
Hanging a door is so complicated that there is an industry standard on how to go about doing it.
-
Hang the door
-
Secure the door
-
Control the door
-
Protect the door
-
Trim the door
This is based on how a carpenter would install the door, and is the basis of how we teach door hardware, how we write specifications, and how the industry talks about doors.
